The Ablekuma West New
Patriotic Party (NPP) delayed parliamentary primary came on as scheduled
but not without pockets of controversies.
Even though incumbent Member of
Parliament (MP) Ursula Owusu-Ekuful won, 13 constituency executives who
perhaps were not too happy with the turn of events prior to Saturday’s
exercise, resigned from their various positions accusing the party’s
flagbearer of dictatorial tendencies.
The group, led by former constituency
chairman Theophilus Tetteh, who was also a contestant but pulled out at
the last minute for reasons best known to him, declared their
decision on the evening news of TV3 Friday.
The move was in disagreement with the NEC’s decision to admit two different registers for the polls.“We have all resigned. The NEC, Nana Akufo-Addo has taken a decision. They say if you don’t like it, you can leave the party. We have left the party for Nana Akufo-Addo and Ursula Owusu. They should carry it!” the former chairman fumed.
Meanwhile incumbent polled 554 votes
while her main contender, Roni Nicole, managed 317 votes with five
rejected ballots out of a total votes cast of 876.
