A
32-year old 207 bus Driver Osei Manu, has been mercilessly beaten with
sticks by officials of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) at race-course
in Kumasi of the Ashanti Region.
The
driver who also inflicted with machete wounds was driving from the bus
terminal at Kumasi race-course to Manso Keniago, Amansie District in the
Region when he was accused of stealing a phone.
According
to an eyewitness, he was beaten to pulp when he admitted stealing one
of the traders’ phone after been forced by the KMA workers to confess.
‘He
was afraid of being stoned to death, so in a move to save his life,
he confessed wrongly and they started beating him with sticks and
machetes, but he is not a thief,’ he explained.
The other
drivers within the station protested that he is not a thief, suggesting
that they  take him to a police station for the law to deal with him
rather than to take the law into their hands.
The irate drivers accused KMA workers of infringing on traders and drivers rights on daily  basis.
As at the time of filing this report, Manu was on his way to lodge official complain at the police station.
