NSIAH ASANTE: Obinim Vs Okomfo Yaw Appiah; the End is Near

 

I’m not surprised that Obinim didn’t turn up. He knows what I have done for him so he can’t come out to challenge me but I want to meet him at all cost so I’ll be back in Accra soon for him and if he fails to turn-up again, then I would have no option than to go meet him in his church.

Kumasi-based Okomfo Yaw Appiah  said that to embattled Obinim, after Obinim failed to turn up in the studios of Happy FM for a show down. I take a look at the troubles unraveling in the life of Bishop Obinim; the utter humiliation in his career and the seeming end of it. In two ways- his battles and public ridicule-, I look at the journey so far for Bishop Obinim.
People have expunged his relevance in terms of showing off his powers. On several occasions, he failed to show up for his own concert. Kwaku Bonsam, Prophet One, Rev. Owusu Bempah and the current Okomfo Yaw Appiah are few examples of his sulkiness when his chickens come to roost.
Outside his battle failures, he has showed to the outside world that he is the go-to person if anyone is seeking relevance in the media. From the days of vandalising Hot FM (which landed him in cuffs, through fighting Prez Rawlings to Afia Schwarzenegger, little can be said about the decency, culture and Christ-like nature of the Bishop. Many have argued that he is no different from the ‘loud-mouth’ politicians in Ghana. His outbursts and how he niggles alone give others the space to ridicule Christianity. Certainly, many would throw their support behind the fetish priest that it is about time he draws his last breath in his ministry.
The public has seen enough of him. At one point, he was invited by the Suame Police in matters involving skeletons which were found on Prophet One’s land. At another point, he was sleeping with a junior pastor’s wife and later on, claiming to transform into animals and trees. Even UK High Commisioner, Jon Benjamin mocked him on this subject. The basic common sense surrounding Christianity was ridiculed.
The end, as his alleged Spiritual Father has said, is near and like the Akans say- Aboa biara 3b3wu a )pre, to wit, Every animal scuffles when its death is near. The series of events leading this incident with the fetish priest today, is worrying and leaves much to ponder over. Argument like do we need a system in place to check these pastors pop up when one begins to think through these issues. Certainly, we do, but one would also argue that issues of spirituality can not be subjected to science or logic. This ends up with the debate as to who is able to tell who is real, as people put it. In an case, if someone is not real, is he not privileged to enjoy the freedom of joining and practicing his religion if it does not trample on anyone’s right? The argument is obviously subtle and for me, not worth pondering over.
There is time for everything and everything has an end. Obinim’s own is dawning  and reality is equally becoming clearer. Lets hope God grants us the patience to tolerate things till the end.
