Fulani Herdsmen Kidnap Catholic Priest, Demand Ransom

Tension is brewing in Owa community in Ezeagu area of Enugu State where a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Aniako Celestine, priest in charge of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ukana, was kidnapped by suspected Fulani herdsmen since on Saturday evening on his way from his home town, Ezeagu.
Sources say the herdsmen have demanded a ransom of $ 51,000 through his mobile number.
Activities of herdsmen in Ugwuleshi, Awgu area of the state, had last week led to destruction of farmland and livestock worth millions of Naira and the detention of 76 members of the community, who were later granted bail by Umuahia Magistrate’s Court, following Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s intervention.
The herdsmen had also killed two sisters in Abbi, Uzo Uwani area last month, leaving 17 houses burnt.

I won’t shut up for politics - Diamond

It is no news now that controversial actress and singer, Diamond Appiah has joined the bandwagon of celebs who want to go to Parliament House.
And as an aspiring MP, many had expected her to steer clear of controversies but that is not likely to happen anytime soon.

It seems the Taste My Apple singer is rather courting more controversies with her recent spats with some of her colleagues in the industry—Mzbel, Afia Schwarzenegger and Delay on various social media platforms.

Diamond told Showbiz on Saturday in an interview that it will be very difficult for her to keep mum when certain issues come up, although she is vying for the Trobu Constituency seat on the ticket of the United Progressive Party (UPP).

“I believe in justice and defending the rights of the vulnerable, that is what I stand for. So if I notice that someone is constantly abusing and harassing a member of the society for no apparent reason, I will defend the individual because we are all Ghanaians and deserve equal rights and respect,” she said.

And when it was pointed out to her that her recent public squabbles could negatively affect her political aspirations, the Superman artiste said “My disagreements with some of my colleagues in the industry has nothing to do with politics. I would very much appreciate it if Ghanaians don’t merge the two.

“I’m human and I have the right to speak on issues of public interest. I don’t think it is fair to link my personal issues with my colleagues to my political career”, she opined.

Diamond, who is also an entrepreneur, dismissed the assertion that her feuds with her colleagues is a cheap attention seeking venture.

“What more attention do I need as a public figure? That isn’t my intention at all. I just believe in justice and defending the rights of the vulnerable. That is all”, she added.

After her official announcement in January this year to run as a MP, Diamond said she has been busy with various strategies to help her wrest the seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC). “ I am more than equal to the task and I am looking forward to victory in November”, she said.

Touching on her showbiz side, Diamond said despite the many challenges and the competition in the showbiz sector, she doesn’t feel pressured since “ I am moving at my own pace”.

“I’m not really bothered about others because I’m not competing with anyone. My focus is to work hard to be a better and a more successful person than I was yesterday. That has been my focus and not what others are doing,” she stated.

Despite Group responds to NPP

Management of Despite Group of Companies has responded to move by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to boycott political programmes of its two radio stations.
The NPP over the weekend in a press release said it has taken a decision to boycott Okay and Neat FMs political programmes, citing hosts of the shows scheming formats to consistently discuss matters of the party with a negative slant.
The group in a press release assured NPP that it has no intention of being politically biased stations, adding that its stations stand to exhibit neutrality.
‘We do not intend nor have thought of creating a politically biased station in Ghana as we do understand the consequences of such a decision,’ it said.

Nana Addo threatened and abused me - Adakabre alleges

Radio Show Host Adakabre Frimpong Manso has alleged that some elements within the opposition New Patriotic Party have threatened to kill him.
His comments come after the NPP blacklisted two media houses – Okay FM and Neat FM belonging to the Despite group over what the party described as bias.

But owners of the two media houses blacklisted by the NPP have denied accusations of bias against the opposition Party.

The NPP has directed its communicators not to appear on two top programmes on Neat FM and Okay FM hosted by Kwame Atikesie and Adakabre Frimpong Manso.

The party is accusing the media houses of propagating falsehood against it. But in a statement the Despite group rejected the claims and assured a common platform for all political parties for the interest of its listeners.

However, Frimpong Manso has launched a scathing attack on the NPP flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo accusing him of death threats and intimidation.

In an interview with Joy FM’s Kojo Yankson Monday, Frimpong Manso said he was only doing his job and has done nothing wrong.

According to him, he has several text messages from the NPP camp that state that he would be killed.

“…Nana Addo abused and threatened me, I was so sad and scared but I kept quiet because I didn’t want to be the fall guy through which something happens and they would say it is because of Adakabre so I kept quiet.

“I was afraid because…I was told to the face that you will be killed at a specific date, I have all the evidence, I can substantiate them…I have everything on my phone, I have kept the phones and I would be willing to show it to anybody who wants to see them,” Frimpong Manso said.

EXPOSING THE LIES THEY TOLD ABOUT CHAIRMAN PAUL AFOKO?

“If we are to speed the coming of the new age, we must have the moral courage to stand up and protest against injustice wherever we find it” Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
One of the baseless charges against National Chairman Paul Afoko was that, he issued a statement which took the shine off Akufo-Addo’s rise and build tour. See the difference in dates of exchanged Press Releases below
ON 31ST AUGUST 2015, the National Chairman through his Spokesperson released a statement extolling the Flagbearer as INCORRUPTIBLE with a harmless caption as ” PARTY LEADERSHIP TO DEAL WITH ACTS OF CORRUPTION” .
“We have a flag bearer who is incorruptible, and it is the expectation of the National Chairman that all party members, especially office holders at all levels, will emulate the incorruptible nature of our flag bearer by applying resources of the party judiciously with the view to improving the party’s chances of winning the 2016 general election,” – 31st August 2015.
2 days Later On 2nd September 2015, A press statement emanating from the office of the Flagbearer and signed by Eugene Arhin ANNOUNCES the intention of Akufo-Addo to embark on a Rise and Build Tour.
“The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will from Thursday, September 3, 2015, embark on a month long tour of the country to touch base with the party, ahead of the commencement of the campaign for the 2016 general elections.” , Statement of Eugene Arhin on 2nd September 2015.
TESTIMONY OF KWABENA AGYEI AGYEPONG ON 7TH SEPTEMBER 2015 on OKAY FM
“The impression is created that I am not in Ghana because I don’t want to help Nana with his tour. First and foremost as of the time I was leaving Ghana on the 21st August, I don’t think the Presidential Candidate had planned to inform us of the tour.”
“National Executives went for a meeting and there was no indication that the date of the National tour was 2nd September. Infact it was on the 1st of September that I read on the internet that Eugene Arhin who is the press secretary to the Presidential candidate had issued a statement indicating that Nana Addo will start his tour in the Volta Region, I had earlier discussed with Nana Addo that he should start his campaign from the Volta Region.” Kwabena Agyepong
LOGICAL DEDUCTIONS
How does a statement on 31st August 2015 takes spoils the brilliance of an unknown event set to occur on 3rd September 2015?
Are members of the Disciplinary committee unconvincingly feeble minded to the extent of mis-ruling over this outright lies?
One is inclined to assume that the Disciplinary Committee never made effort to investigate the veracity or otherwise of this obvious untruth because of their eagerness to sack National Chairman Paul Afoko in order to suit the desires of a certain incorruptible flagbearer.
The decision of the flagbearer to embark on a rise and build tour was arbitrary and never tabled for discussion at any National Council meeting, yet another of the said ridiculous charges against National Chairman Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong was that, they engaged in taking UNILATERAL DECISIONS.
Going through the further and better particulars above, the petitioners acted on bad faith and this repudiate their petition (he who comes to equity must come with clean hands).
The demeanor of the Disciplinary Committee to the extent of glossing over this clear distortion of facts to hang an innocent Chairman Afoko can best be described as a “Doomsday for Justice”
