40 000 people to be deported from UK

British Members of Parliament have warned that plans to deport skilled migrant workers who earn less than £35 000 per year and originate from non-European Union (EU) countries will create a skills shortage in the economy. At least 40 000 migrants, among them Zimbabweans, will be affected by the new regulations which come into effect on April 6. The new earnings threshold will particularly affect those in low skilled jobs. The United Kingdom Office of National Statistics reported the Zimbabwean population in Britain increased from 47 158 in 2001 to an estimated 200 000 in 2010.

The proposals, which were mooted by the UK Home Secretary, Mrs Theresa May, were recently lambasted by MPs at Westminster Hall during a parliamentary debate examining the UK’s immigration policy.

UK media reports say the discussion offered the first official platform for MPs to analyze the policy, which was pushed through the House of Commons in the absence of a parliamentary vote in 2012.

The threshold could lead to thousands of Zimbabwean teachers, charity workers and those employed in the National Health Service (NHS) being deported from the UK if they fail to meet certain financial criteria.

The new immigration policy means non-EU workers who have lived in Britain for five years will be required to prove they earn £35 000 (US$50 000) to avoid deportation. However, workers who fall into the category of Shortage Occupations, will be exempt from the measure.

Although nurses and doctors are currently exempted from the earnings threshold, May said they were likely to be affected in future should the government decide to take them off the Shortage Occupation List.

Scientists and researchers in PhD level jobs will also be exempt from the earnings test. Others that could be widely affected are students. Britain’s Stop35k campaign says it understands the need to curb migration, but argues that a £35 000 minimum salary across all sectors is simply too high.

The group says the new policy will cost the UK government hundreds of millions of pounds at a time of austerity, and will also displace valuable employees. Stop35k has launched a petition against the threshold, calling on the government to delay implementing the policy.

A petition on the website of the UK parliament in support of a rethink has since attracted more than 110 000 signatures. Mr Joshua Harbord, who set up the petition, recently told The Independent that he decided to take action because he knew a number of “incredibly upset and scared” people who were set to be affected by the changes had no one speaking up on their behalf.

The debate was attended by seven Scottish National Party (SNP) MPs, three Tory MPs and two Labour MPs. Ms May did not attend the debate and her decision to send junior minister Mr Richard Harrington in her place sparked anger among critics and the opposition.

Labour MP Mr Keir Starmer expressed concern, saying the threshold could create grave skills shortages in the UK economy. Speaking during the debate, SNP MP Mr Kirsten Oswald branded the threshold “overly simplistic” and “crude.”

Other MPs argued it failed to heed varying wage levels across the UK. SNP MP for Edinburgh East Mr Tommy Shepard called the measures “ludicrous” and said they failed to take into account “regional variations” across the UK. He warned the policy would further imbalance Britain’s economy.

The plan by the British government has been met with condemnation from opposition parties and sections of British society who argue the new earnings are “discriminatory” and likely to starve Britain of vital talent in the teaching, charity and entrepreneurial sectors.

Mr Carmichael, the Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman, told The Independent: “Britain must remain open for business — we should be looking to attract the best and brightest not turn them away. Discrimination based on income fails to take talent and new sectors like tech start-ups, whose staff might be paid less than £35 000, are essential in keeping the UK at the forefront of the global economy.”

From April 6, only those that earn £35 000 and above a year will be eligible to apply for “indefinite leave to remain” once they have lived in the UK for five years.

Teacher impregnates 15 school girls

Rayson Tsvangirai Rushwaya a teacher at Vhembe Secondary School in Beitbridge has been released from custody after being arrested for allegedly having sex with school girls because the recent Constitutional Court ruling that outlaws child marriage has not been gazzetted.
Citing the ruling, some women whose children fall in the age group under spotlight that Rushwaya allegedly slept with, impregnating some of them, last week made a report to Beitbridge Police seeking to have him charged under the new law.
“We have no choice but to refer the matter back to the Police because the new law has not been gazetted and we have no statutory instrument provisions for that,” said a prosecutor.
He had been in custody for two days.
It is alleged that Rushwaya, using as a conduit his niece from the same school and identified only as Rumbi, lured schoolgirls to a hotel room where he allegedly gave them either some intoxicating stuff or drugs before sexually ravaging them.
Some reports said Rushwaya was restless and exhibited ruthless and unusual sex power throughout the night when he was with his victims.
Matabeleland South Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nkosilathi Sibanda said he has not received the report.local news.

Was Nazir Nortei Alema, the Ghana ISIS Recruit Executed?

Nazir Nortei Alema, who made the headlines when he surprisingly joined the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) last year, is dead, his Islamic funeral attracting massive turnout at Osu last Sunday.
The deceased received positive tributes from his acquaintances, including the Tudu Central Mosque Imam, Abdul Hamid Musah, whose Friday sermon centred on the plight of Nazir.
Nazir reportedly died while in the frontline in Homs, Syria, at the hands of Bashar Assad’s forces who took advantage of the strafing of the ground by Russian bombardment or direct hit from the Russian aircraft on one of their many sorties.
The report of his death, DAILY GUIDE learnt, was relayed to the family through an email from another Ghanaian ISIS recruit.
The message hit the family like thunderbolt, having lost a loved one after seeing him through university education.
The special prayer for Muslims who die without their remains available – Salaati Galib – was held at the Tudu Central Mosque last Friday after the weekly congregational prayer.
After Imam Abdul Hamid Musah, the cleric who led the prayer, a contemporary of the deceased, had announced the death of the young Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) graduate, the mood of the faithful became sombre.
He told the congregation that Abdul Nazir had passed on after being lured into believing that he had joined the ranks of the faithful to fight for the cause of God. That was not the case anyway, as according to him he had fallen prey to bad gang who lie about their faith thereby luring innocent persons such as the gentle Nazir to join them.
“Let parents be wary about who their children’s friends are,” the Imam said, adding, “This way, parents would be able to monitor the kids with a view to intervening where necessary. Not doing so is risky and can lead to untoward fallouts such as it befell Nazir.”
He described Nazir as a good man and prayed God to be gentle with his soul because after all, he went to Syria with a clean heart.
.
The foregone constituted the contents of the Friday or Jummat sermon – the highlight of the weekly religious rite, the attendance of which is mandatory for all Muslims.
At the end of the prayer came the special prayer or Salaati Gaalib.
The next funeral prayer was the one held at the ancestral home of the Alemas at Osu, not far from the Kingdom Bookshop.
Many sympathisers turned up to partake in the spiritual exercise for the soul of Nazir.
Nazir was born in the United Kingdom where his parents sojourned until their final return to Ghana.

Officiating clerics were made up of persons from Tudu, Accra, where the deceased’s father was born. Present were, among others, Ghana’s former Defence Attaché to Britain, Brig Musah Ibrahim (rtd), a cousin of the deceased’s father, and many others.
Nazir Alema, it would be recalled, informed his parents through a correspondence last year after the completion of his national service that he was en route to join ISIS to fight a jihad. Since then his parents, especially his mother, had been on tenterhooks not knowing what was going to befall him until the sad news came to them via an email message sent through one of his Ghanaian colleagues.
Nazir’s joining ISIS prompted a national worry and an eventual first national conference on extremism at the National Theatre in Accra, which close to 2,000 Muslim youth from various educational institutions partook in.

£7,740.50 for 3am “anti-witchcraft” and “anti-poverty” services..Church in London

A church in south London has been fined almost £8,000 (Ksh1.1 million) after a series of noisy 3am sermons aimed at battling ‘witchcraft’ woke up its neighbours, reports United Kingdom’s Standard.

Kingdom Church in Camberwell – headed by a Kenyan, Bishop Climate Irungu – holds early morning weekly services that claim to offer “deliverance” from sickness, financial hardship and “demonic soul ties”.

But the preaching which goes on during the events has brought complaints from neighbours and a £7,740 ‘anti-social behavior’ fine was issued on February 22.

When the Standard contacted a female worker in the church, she said that the services had to be held at 3am because it was the best time to ensure “very strong deliverance” from evil.

The outlet reports the church does not appear to be affiliated to any official branches of Christianity in the UK.

One neighbour, who asked to remain anonymous, told Standard the noise was incessant.

“I live directly next to it,” he said. “The noise is constant. I don’t mind being bothered on Sunday mornings, but the late evening and early morning sessions are horrible. When there is a pause, the congregation flood out to the street to get food from a small food stand for a recharge, making just as much noise as while inside.”

Southwark councillor Michael Situ said: “We would have preferred to settle this matter out of court, but unfortunately our attempts to work with the church leaders were ignored.

“We hope the penalty helps to remind both the leaders, and the wider community, anti-social behaviour of any kind will not be tolerated.”

Bishop Irungu insists the church was there before the residents and it has made every effort to cut the noise.

He told Southwark News: “It is a big fine and we will be appealing against it. I do not deny that we made some noise – we did. But we have spent nearly ten thousand pounds reducing the noise. And I was out of the country so could not go to court.

“We are based is an industrial area. But there are new flats and they complain. The flats were meant to be offices but they became houses. People could hear it, especially in summer when they open their windows.”

Asante Mampong Midwifery Principal seizes students’ certificates

Tension is currently brewing in the Asante Mampong Midwifery and Health Assistants Training School in the Ashanti Region as aggrieved students are on the heels of the Principal Madam Lydia Yamoah for withholding their certificates.
Graduates of the school, who successfully completed their various course of study, are yet to receive their certificates three months after they had been cleared.
They are accusing the Principal of deliberately withholding their certificates to frustrate them, indicating that they will soon embark on a collision course with authorities of the school to compel them release their certificates.
Efforts by 90% of the students on Monday who converged at the schools administration block for their certificate results proved futile.
The Principal of the school insists that not until all 13 students among them settle their fees arrears, the certificates will not be released to them.
One of the graduates husband Issaka Sina in an interview with Ultimate News called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to call the Principal to order.

Military personnel invade Bole District

Six armed military personnel on Sunday morning invaded Dollar Power town, a mining community in the Bole district of the Northern Region, Ultimate news has gathered.
The soldiers reportedly subjected ‘adamant and uncooperative’ residents to series of brutalities over what is yet to be uncovered.
According to a resident identified only as Mr. Razak, the military personnel raided several homes  and are currently holding a well known Galamsey operator identified as Mohammed in captivity .
‘We were just at Dollar Power town and some soldiers came with armoured cars and surrounded the whole community. They did not  allow people to leave and won’t release people to come inside. Currently, the chairman of the community, Mohammed, also known as Dollar power  has been held and interrogation is ongoing; the search is ongoing, they are entering into houses and those who are not cooperating are being beaten’, Razak narrated.
Razak added that, the armed military men came to the community with at least six armoured vehicles, conducted a roll call and burgled houses of targeted individuals who have since fled the community.
It is not yet clear why the soldiers launched the incursion but it is widely believed to be linked to the death of a military officer who was attacked in the area.
It would be recalled that on February 5, 2016, a group of gunmen fired at the convoy of the Bole District Security Council who were on their way to the Galamsey community on fact finding mission.
A military officer died in the attack while two including a fire commander sustained second degree injuries.
Residents believe the soldiers were hunting for the attackers.
They added that weapons were retrieved from the search conducted by the soldiers.
Dollar power is a border town in Ivory Coast. The area noted for the activities of illegal mining has recently grabbed  media headlines for wrong reasons
The area is said to be harbouring some Ivorian rebels who have been reportedly terrorizing residents of the area.
Residents of the area were said to be arming themselves against armed robbery attacks which is said to be on the increase.

Ghanaian ISIS Recruit, Dead.

Nazir Is Dead

Mohammed Nazir Nortei Alema, the Ghanaian graduate from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) who joined terrorist group ISIS in August 2015 has been reported killed.

Sources close to the family in Accra told the The Finder newspaper that the final funeral rites, Adua in Islam, were held Sunday. Nazir was reportedly killed in battle in the Syrian city of Homs.

According to sources close to the family, another Ghanaian ISIS recruit who gave his name as Mr Yusif, a graduate of the University of Mines in Prestea, announced Mr Nazir’s death to the family through an email.

Nazir left Ghana in August last year to join ISIS in Syria, a situation that caused panic on the campus of the Kumasi-based university.

Students were stunned when they heard that the quiet and calm former student had joined the jihadist group.

According to them, his demeanor never showed him as someone with the slightest inclination to violence.

Their biggest fear is that there could be a secret camp of the terrorist group on the campus that admits and recruits students.

Shortl after joining ISIS, Nazir Nortei Alema reportedly sent a message to his family informing them about his decision to join the jihadist group, after completing a one-year National Service with the Ghana Statistical Service.
